Role Description

As a Contract Mechanical Engineer, you will support the mechanical design and development of Verne’s robotic systems. You’ll work closely with our core engineering team to prototype, iterate, and validate hardware solutions — from CAD modeling to fabrication and integration with actuators and sensors. Your work will directly contribute to improving the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of our robotic arms deployed in customer environments.

This contract role is ideal for an engineer who moves fast, enjoys hands-on prototyping, and can deliver high-quality mechanical designs on a project-by-project basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rapidly design and iterate on mechanical systems in CAD.
  • Prototype with 3D printing, machining, and basic CNC workflows.
  • Integrate mechanical designs that will interact with brushless DC motors, actuators, and sensors.
  • Estimate payloads, forces, and material strength to ensure robust performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to bring full robotic systems to life.
  • Transition designs from prototypes to production-ready hardware.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Internship or 1+ year of relevant mechanical or robotics design experience preferred.
  • Strong CAD skills with the ability to iterate quickly.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, machining, and CNC workflows.
  • Solid grasp of mechanical design fundamentals (payload, stress, tolerance, etc.).
  • Familiarity with motors, actuators, and robotics hardware.
  • Comfortable working independently, managing scope, and delivering high-quality work on defined timelines.
  • Bonus: Prior experience in robotics hardware design or electromechanical systems integration.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Hourly Range: $35 to $45
  • Expect to work 25 to 35 hours per week, this is a month to month contract role

Interview Process

  • One 30 Minute Zoom Call
  • Onsite Interview (1 hour)
