Our mission at K-Scale Labs is to build a world with billions of general-purpose robots. We work on every component of the stack—hardware, software, and ML models—and open-source them to ensure the benefits of real-world embodied intelligence is shared by everyone.

Over the past year, we have gone from 3D printed prototypes to fully functional CNC machined 6061 aluminium humanoid. Our mission is make humanoids commonplace and accelerate humanity’s progress up the kardashev scale. Over the next 6-12 months, we will ship hundreds of humanoid robots to consumers.

We are looking for an engineer that is self-motivated and deeply passionate about K-Scale mission. You will play an instrumental role in transforming robotics as it will be known.

In this founding mechanical engineer role, you will take large ownership of critical components in the testing, analysis, and design optimizations for production at scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, prototyping, and validation for key electromechanical components in humanoid robot.
• Optimize components for weight, cost, and manufacturability.
• Investigate and repair failures seen in the field or in-house and develop process or design fixes and improvements
• Collaborate with CMs to integrate reliability testing and quality procedures into production and address risks during scale-up
• Develop and execute reliability and stress testing plans for key robotic subsystems to inform design choices and validate simulation results
• Support NPI builds on-site to refine designs and processes for mass production
• Cooperate with machine learning, software and firmware engineers to validate updates and revise design requirements.

Requirements

• Proficient in developing complex assemblies with a focus on DFM/DFA optimization, using design tools like OnShape and SolidWorks
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes like injection molding, die casting, extrusion, forging, and sheet metal stamping; understanding tradeoffs and implementation requirements.
• Experience with selecting materials, analyzing tolerance stack-ups, and validating electro-mechanical designs
• Familiarity with industrial management techniques, methodologies and software for quality assurance and traceability
• Experienced with simulation and analysis methodology; static analysis necessary, dynamic analysis desirable.
• Professional experience or strong personal projects in robotics or other electromechanical areas.

Bonus Qualification

• Experience working with contract manufacturers
• Experience with Python and/or Rust to be able to program basic functionalities for testing and data collection.
• Familiarity with 3D FDM & SLA printing for functional prototyping.
• Leadership or project management experience, demonstrating ability to see higher level goals to orient and prioritize own’s time around them.
