We're hiring a System Design Engineer.

You'll architect elegant, deeply technical infrastructure for translation, localization, and open-source i18n powered by AI that engineering teams worldwide depend on - and that you'll use yourself.

You might wonder why "Design" appears in the title.

Simple: AI has made coding easy. Claude-4, O-3, Cursor, Devin - they write decent code and Terraform configs now.

What remains invaluable? Intuition and taste -- shaped by solving hard problems, learning what actually works, and, in moments of uncertainty, making the right call even when there’s no clear answer. That kind of judgment is forged through the pain of making many correct decisions, and a few wrong ones you regret and learn from.

• Enjoys working directly with users and customers, turning their feedback into better products

• Gets excited about cutting-edge AI tech the moment it drops

We want you to build the most scalable and elegant backend systems you've ever built. Design APIs that handle millions of translation requests while staying fast and reliable. Architect AI pipelines that orchestrate LLMs and vector databases with obsessive attention to performance and parallelization.

We want you to deliver features that users actually use, working closely with customers on Slack and users on Discord to understand their needs and iterate based on their feedback and feature requests. This direct connection to users will shape how you design and prioritize your systems.

We want you do design systems so clean that new engineers understand them immediately. Design infrastructure that grows with our product as we move fast and evolve.

Our tech stack is JavaScript-based (Node.js, TypeScript), but we're open-minded about the right tool for the job and that should excite you.

You'll face intense distributed systems challenges and solve scalability problems others give up on, with a world-class team that makes it worthwhile.
